San Francisco Family Daytrips: Picnicking in Point Reyes
Monday, August 07, 2006 posted by Henri
So getting away during the weekend with kid in tow is not always the easiest of things to do but minutes north of San Francisco is the beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore which makes for awesome picnicking. Take HWY 1 or Sir Francis Drake Blvd. to Point Reyes and your done. Couldn't be easier. Bring an Ice pack to load up at Tomales Bay Foods where we find the Cowgirl Creamery and if your lucky some Fatted Calf charcuterie. You can also head a bit north to Hog Island Oyster Co and grab some Hog Island Sweetwaters or Kumamotos to go. Head towards Hearts Desire Beach with your bounty and hope you don't get too much fog like we did.
Our Bounty (Found entirely at Tomales Bay Foods home of Cowgirl Creamery):
Cafe Rouge Pork Pate
Smoked Salmon
Westfield Farms "Wasabi Disk": Japanese Wasabi and Chive studded chevre
Cypress Grove Humboldt Fog: hey its got a distinct layer of vegetable ash! everyone's old favorite
Sottocenere: Veneto raw cow's milk cheese with black truffles and a truffle oil rind
Yellow Beet Salad
Curry Chicken Salad
some Bread and chips and soda
The smoked salmon with Wasabi chevre was a kick ass pairing. Hearts Desire Beach has great picnic tables and real bathrooms (bonus). Lots of Poison Oak beyond the railings though so we had to keep a close eye on the kid. If you havent had Sottocenere it is very kickassinous. Which reminds me that I havent posted about our black truffle and lobster Gnocchi we had in LA at Mastro's for the Mrs. Birthday. Hmm I guess that goes on the coming soon pile. Make sure to hit the Read more Link to see our Slide Show. (Continued...)
